Scale based Layout Assignment!

Playing with scale for a layout assignment. I'm not very comfortable with layout, but this wasn't so bad!

Head Rotation & Lip Sync

For animation we got to choose any character and do a head turn, expression change and lip sync.

I wanted a bit of a challenge, so I chose Brother Aidan from Secret of Kells. I had to break a lot of the stylistic animation, as the prof wanted to see a lot of three-dimensionality and squash and stretch.

I had a lot of fun with the expression and lip sync, but the rotation was extremely tedious.

I hope I did him justice!!

Digitools Flash animation

So for digital tools, we're learning flash. I've used it before, but never with frame by frame animation. We had to create a scene showing anticipation, action and reaction, so here's mine!

There are a lot of flaws, but with a short timeline and more of a focus in understanding the software, I'm pretty happy with this c:

Semester 1 Demo Reel

Instead of going to bed to get sleep for my first of many 8 am classes, I thought I'd get to uploading this!

So after my first Semester of Animation at Sheridan College, we had to put together a Demo Reel. So here's some of my highlights of the semester!

Unfortunately there isn't anything really cool there yet, as we've been learning the basics, but I've learned a lot!

Ball & Tail

So for our final assignment in Animation, we had to animate two balls interacting with each other. These balls, had to have tails to show that we understand S&C curves.

I was frustrated in the beginning because we had to do a lot more than the year before us, (an additional ball character) but in the end, it turned out to be fairly fun. Despite the looming deadlines for my other classes, I managed to finish this with time to spare and I'm extremely happy with the result!

(The final version that I handed in had the fat one sleeping for a little longer so that their entrances were not at the same time, but I forgot that file on the server- whoops)

Bianca: Expression Sheet

Meet Bianca! She's my sassy Club singer!

I'm pretty sure this was the final assignment for Semester 1 in Character Design, and like all the others, it was a lot of fun!!

I tried to challenge myself and create a character that is different enough from Theodore (from the first project).

You'll probably see a bit more of Bianca in the future c:

Royal Winter Fair 2013

I was extremely nervous about this trip and my drawings, but oh my gosh it was great!! I got to spend the day with my best friend (who i barely see lately) and I actually think my drawings aren't half bad!!

I favour the studies over the gestures for sure!

Camera Angles

Layout definitely isn't my strong suit. Add unclear instructions and it makes for total confusion and zero confidence. Overall I think it turned out alright, though I'm still nervous about if I did everything right.

I'm not fond of shading either.

Got a lot to work on :/

Theodore

Just got around to finishing up my character posing sheet. (Still might fix a few things up)

Here's my poor unlucky, kindhearted character Theodore.

And here are some early expression sketches done while I was still developing him and getting used to drawing him.

Vacation Daddy is tired.

Still need to clean up some areas of the scan, but here's my first Character Design assignment!

(I'll probably colour the 3/4 eventually)

2013 Animation Portfolio Scoresheet

Aaaaannnddddd here's my score!!

Much better than last year's 2.95, this year I got an overall score of 3.52!

I'm very happy with the scores and I'm so proud that I got no 2s!! :D
